Rawa Island Guide 2026: Is It Worth Visiting?

Rawa Island Malaysia Guide 2026: Is Pulau Rawa Worth Visiting?

Rawa Island, also known as Pulau Rawa, is a small private island off Mersing, Johor. It is known for clear blue water, soft white sand, peaceful beaches and a slower island pace that feels very different from busy destinations such as Langkawi or Tioman Island.

For travellers from Johor, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, Rawa Island is one of the easier beach escapes to plan. You do not need to fly across Malaysia. You travel to Mersing, take a resort arranged speedboat, and arrive on an island that feels quiet, scenic and simple.

But Rawa Island is not for everyone. It is not a shopping island. It is not a nightlife island. It is not the best choice if you want a flexible day trip or a budget backpacker holiday. Rawa is better for travellers who are happy to stay overnight, follow the resort boat schedule and enjoy a beach focused holiday.

This guide will help you decide if Rawa Island suits your travel style.

Where Is Rawa Island?

rawa island

Rawa Island is located off the east coast of Johor, near the town of Mersing. It sits within the Sultan Iskandar Marine Park, a protected marine area that covers several island clusters off Johor.

This location is one of Rawa Island’s strongest advantages. For travellers from Singapore and Johor Bahru, it is much easier to reach compared with islands in Terengganu or Sabah. For Kuala Lumpur travellers, it is still a manageable short getaway by road.

The journey usually starts in Mersing. From there, visitors take a private speedboat arranged by their resort. This is important because Rawa Island is not a normal public ferry destination where you simply buy any ticket and go. Your boat timing, check in process and transfer arrangement should be confirmed with your resort before travelling.

Who Should Visit Rawa Island?

Rawa Island is suitable for travellers who want a simple and quiet beach holiday.

It works well for couples who want a peaceful escape, families who prefer an easy resort based trip, and small groups who want to spend most of their time by the sea. It is also a good choice for Singapore based travellers who want an island holiday without taking a flight.

Rawa is also suitable if you enjoy slow travel. The island is not about rushing between attractions. Most visitors come here to swim, snorkel, kayak, relax on the beach and enjoy the view.

Who May Not Enjoy Rawa Island?

Rawa Island may not be the right choice if you want a cheap backpacker trip, nightlife, shopping, many restaurant options or full itinerary flexibility.

It is also not ideal if you dislike package-based travel. Since accommodation, meals and boat transfers are often arranged together, the trip can feel less flexible compared with larger islands.

Why Visit Rawa Island?

Clear Water and White Sand Rawa Island

1. Clear Water and White Sand

The main reason people visit Rawa Island is simple: the beach is beautiful. The island is known for clear turquoise water, soft white sand and a calm beachfront setting.

On good weather days, the water is suitable for swimming and snorkelling near the shore. You may see colourful fish and marine life around the island, although sightings always depend on weather, sea conditions and season.

2. Private Island Feeling

Rawa Island feels more private than many larger Malaysia islands. There are no busy roads, shopping streets or crowded town areas. Most of the experience happens around the resort, beach and sea. Rawa is best for travellers who want to slow down and enjoy fewer things properly.

3. Convenient Short Escape

Rawa Island is especially attractive for travellers from Johor and Singapore because it does not require complicated travel. Once you reach Mersing, the boat ride to the island is usually short.

This makes Rawa a strong option for a two or three night trip. One night may feel rushed because your schedule depends on boat timing, check in time and weather.

4. Easy Resort Based Holiday

Rawa Island is not the kind of destination where you need to plan every meal and activity separately. Most visitors stay in a resort package, with meals and boat transfer included or arranged as part of the stay.

For travellers who want a low stress holiday, this is useful. You choose your resort, confirm the package, arrive at Mersing and follow the resort transfer arrangement.

Best Things to Do on Rawa Island

Snorkelling on rawa island

1. Snorkelling

Snorkelling is one of the easiest and most popular activities on Rawa Island. The clear water and beach access make it suitable for beginners and casual snorkellers.

You may see tropical fish, coral and other marine life near the island. Always avoid stepping on coral or touching marine animals. Rawa Island is part of a protected marine environment, so responsible travel matters.

2. Swimming and Beach Time

Rawa Island is best enjoyed slowly. Swimming, sunbathing, walking along the beach and resting by the sea are all part of the experience.

If your idea of a holiday is waking up, walking straight to the beach and doing very little after that, Rawa will make sense.

3. Kayaking and Paddleboarding

Kayaking and stand up paddleboarding are available at selected resorts, depending on package, equipment availability and weather conditions.

These activities are good for travellers who want to enjoy the water without going too far from shore. They are also suitable for families and groups who want light activities between meals and beach time.

4. Diving

Rawa Island can also appeal to divers. The island’s marine setting and nearby reefs make diving possible, especially for those who want a relaxed island diving experience.

If diving is a key reason for your trip, check directly with your resort about dive centre operation, package details, certification requirements and sea conditions before booking.

5. Short Walks and Viewpoints

Rawa Island is small, but there are areas where visitors can enjoy short walks and scenic views. A higher viewpoint can give you a better look at the island, beach and surrounding sea.

Wear proper footwear if you plan to walk beyond the beach area. Wet paths, rocks and slippers are not the best combination.

Where to Stay on Rawa Island

There are two main accommodation options commonly associated with Rawa Island: Rawa Island Resort and Alang’s Rawa.

Both offer a beachfront island experience, but they suit different types of travellers.

Rawa Island Resort

Rawa Island Resort

Rawa Island Resort is the more complete resort option on the island. It is generally suitable for families, couples and travellers who want a smoother resort stay with organised facilities.

The resort offers package-based stays that usually include accommodation, meals and two way boat transfer from Mersing. It also has facilities such as dining, sea activities, diving and spa services, depending on availability and current resort arrangement.

Rawa Island Resort is better for travellers who want comfort, convenience and a more structured holiday. It is also a safer choice for families who prefer clearer arrangements around meals and transfers.

Choose Rawa Island Resort if:

  • You are travelling with family.
  • You prefer a more complete resort setup.
  • You want meals and transfers arranged clearly.
  • You prefer comfort over a rustic beach stay.
  • You want access to more organised resort facilities.

Alang’s Rawa

Alang’s Rawa is a smaller beach resort with a more rustic and boutique feel. It is known for its casual atmosphere, beachfront setting and social island mood.

The resort has limited rooms, so it can feel more intimate than a larger resort. Weekdays are generally more peaceful and family friendly, while weekends are known to be livelier.

Alang’s Rawa suits travellers who prefer a relaxed, informal and social beach stay. It may not be the best fit for those who want polished resort luxury, but it works well for couples and groups of friends who enjoy a more casual island atmosphere.

Choose Alang’s Rawa if:

  • You prefer a smaller resort.
  • You enjoy a casual beach atmosphere.
  • You are travelling as a couple or with friends.
  • You want something more rustic and social.
  • You are comfortable with fewer facilities.

Best Time to Visit Rawa Island

The best time to visit Rawa Island is generally from March to October. This period usually offers better conditions for boat transfers, beach activities, snorkelling and diving.

March to May is a good time for travellers who want a quieter trip before the peak holiday period.

June to August is usually busier because of school holidays and summer travel. If you plan to visit during this period, book early.

September to October can still be suitable, but you should check the weather more carefully as the season moves closer to the monsoon period.

November to February may bring rougher sea conditions and higher weather risk. Some resorts may still operate, but travellers should confirm availability, boat schedules and sea conditions before booking.

How to Get to Rawa Island

Step 1: Travel to Mersing

Mersing is the main gateway to Rawa Island.

From Kuala Lumpur, most travellers drive or take a bus to Mersing. The drive usually takes several hours, depending on traffic and route.

From Singapore, travellers can drive, book a private transfer or take bus connections to Mersing. This is one reason Rawa Island is popular among Singapore based travellers.

From Johor Bahru, the journey is shorter and can be done by car or private transfer.

Step 2: Take the Resort Speedboat

After reaching Mersing, you will take a resort arranged speedboat to Rawa Island. The boat ride usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes, depending on resort arrangement, weather and sea conditions.

Confirm your boat time before travelling. The resort will usually provide instructions on where to check in and when to arrive.

Do not assume you can arrive late and simply take the next boat. Island transfers depend on schedule, tide and weather.

Rawa Island Packages and Cost

Rawa Island is usually booked as a package holiday rather than a room only stay.

Packages often include accommodation, meals and two way boat transfer from Mersing. Some packages may include selected activities or equipment, while others may charge separately.

Because package inclusions differ between resorts, always check the latest details before booking.

Commonly Included
  • Accommodation
  • Daily meals
  • Two-way boat transfer from Mersing
  • Welcome drink, depending on resort
  • Use of selected resort facilities, depending on package
Extra Costs to Prepare
  • Marine park fee
  • Tourism tax for foreign travellers
  • Drinks
  • Diving or paid water activities
  • Parking in Mersing
  • Private land transfer
  • Personal expenses

Avoid relying on old blog prices because resort rates can change. For accurate pricing, check directly with the resort or an authorised booking partner.

What to Pack for Rawa Island

packing tips to rawa island

Since Rawa Island is small and resort based, bring what you need before boarding the boat.

Useful items include swimwear, light clothing, sandals, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, dry bag, waterproof phone pouch, basic medicine, insect repellent and motion sickness tablets if needed.

Bring some cash for jetty or marine park related fees, but also check your resort’s payment methods. Some island expenses may be handled by card, e wallet or bank transfer, depending on the resort.

Travel Tips Before Visiting Rawa Island

  1. Book Early

Accommodation on Rawa Island is limited. If you are travelling during weekends, public holidays or school holidays, book early.

2. Stay at Least Two Nights

Two nights is usually the most practical option. One night can feel rushed because your trip depends on boat timing, check in time and weather.

3. Do Not Plan It Like a Day Trip

Rawa Island is better planned as an overnight island stay. At least one major resort does not offer day trips and requires a minimum stay, so check your chosen resort before planning.

4. Respect Marine Park Rules

Rawa Island is part of a protected marine environment. Do not litter, touch coral, disturb marine life or ignore resort safety rules.

Clear water does not stay clear by accident.

Conclusion: Should Rawa Island Be on Your 2026 Malaysia Island List?

Rawa Island is worth visiting if you want a quiet, scenic and easy to reach island escape from Johor or Singapore. It offers clear water, white sand, snorkelling, kayaking and a peaceful resort based experience without needing to fly.

The key is knowing what Rawa Island is and what it is not.

It is not the best choice for nightlife, shopping, budget backpacking or flexible day trips. It is best for travellers who want to slow down, enjoy the sea and spend a few days away from busy routines.

Island Hopping Among Malaysia Islands

The Islands on the South-eastern coast of Malaysia are well-known for its tropical island vacation, clear waters, untouched jungles, white beaches and fresh air, with some of them offering you a wide range of engaging things to do while others can be majorly used for relaxing.

Some of these major Malaysia islands are,

Redang Island:

One of the largest islands off the East coast of Malaysia, the Redang Island is a popular tourist destination. It is a part of the Redang archipelago (a chain of islands scattered in the lakes, rivers or the ocean). While Redang Island or Pulau Redang is the biggest island, the other islands are Pulau Lima, Pulau Paku Besar, Pulau Paku Kecil, Pulau Kerengga Kecil, Pulau Kerengga Besar, Pulau Ekor Tebu, Pulau Ling and Pulau Pinang. These islands are protected marine parks, protecting underwater life from humans.

Perhentian Island:

The word “perhentian” (per-hen-tee-an not per-hen-she-an or per-hen-shen) translates to “stopping point”. A reference to its history, it holds true even today – metaphorically as a stopping point for your heart, mind, and ecological conservation. The island is divided into two – the bigger one and the smaller one – Pulau Perhentian Besan and Pulau Perhentian Kecil, respectively. The former caters to specific people and is expensive while compared to the latter. There are also other little inhabited islands that are a part of this island. All these islands are a part of a protected marine park.

Tioman Island:

Tioman Island was popularized when in the 1970s the TIME Magazine had named it one of the most beautiful islands. Located in the South-eastern Coast of Malaysia, the Island has every deserving reason to be on your do-not-miss list. The Island is a good place to spend your vacation whether in solo or group. There are budget packages and places to be accordingly. Unlike other South-eastern vacation islands like Perhentian Islands or Lang Tengah or Redang, this Island welcomes visitors all year long.

Other such Islands are Rawa Island, Langkawi Island, etc.

Islands in Malaysia

Now one major thing about going out to such islands, other than the silence, the beaches and the jungle life, is the underwater life. These places are conserved marine parks and thus have hoardes of aquatic wildlife to discover.

One important thing you shouldn’t miss doing in these islands is island hopping. Not every island in the area is accessible. Some islands are accessible, but they’re not exactly places you can stay, sometimes the stay being not as popular as other islands (since these islands may have a lot more to offer tourists). But surely, do NOT miss underwater activities – and choose them if you’re especially a diver with experience to make the best out of it!

Here is a brief list of little Islands of Malaysia that you must visit while visiting their bigger and/or popular counterparts.

Pulau Lima

Pulau Lima or Lima Island is an island in the Redang archipelago. This island has little lands that make up the whole island, and that’s why the name translates to “five islets”. You can expect to see underwater life like hard and soft corals, anemones, nudibranchs, manta rays, whale sharks, sea fans, whips, blacktip sharks, putterfish, etc., on various points around the island. There are also some interesting caves worth exploring here. As the monsoon season in this area is between November and February, March to October is the best time to visit.

Paku Islands

Pulau Paku Besar and Pulau Paku Kecil, literally, Big Paku Island and Small Paku Island, it is one of the largest islands off the east coast of Malaysia. With its beautiful beaches and pristine waters, it’s a place you can hop on from Pulau Redang to visit.

Layang-Layang Island

Known as “Swallow Reef” is English, it is a disputed island by different countries of China, Taiwan, Vietnam and Philippines. There is a Malaysian Naval Base at this Island, obviously off-limits to visitors. This Island is not the choice if you want sandy beaches, because there are only concrete boulders. But if you’re into bird-watching, sure, go ahead to this island. Due to its location, the ocean water around is serene and calling. You can spot various deep water marine species around this Island. It is also still largely unexplored, making it a magical experience for you. The Island is open during March to October, when it’s not monsoon season.

Jehat Island

The “Wicked Island” is located on the South of Tioman Island, in the straits of Johor. As per beliefs, the Island is supposedly the final resting place of a witch doctor named Merah who is there because his spirit couldn’t cross the waters. So, his spirit is believed to kill anyone who disturbs or disrespects his tomb. Historically, this island had some British gun emplacements, which are now abandoned. An amazing place to explore underwater, there are also some underwater caves found here.

Tulai Island

Tulai Island is a little paradise, and is also called “Coral Island”. It is located near Tioman Islands. Densely packed with lot of trees, the Island has white sand and crystal clear waters. It is a great place to snorkel and dive, and the Island has a lot of spots to do such underwater activities. There are no residential premises like hotels or resorts on the Island, and camping is also prohibited. The best time to visit is the non-monsoon season, especially, the dry season between April and July.

Sepoi Island

It is an Island near Tioman Island. It is a regularly visited diving spot. In an underwater visit you can see sandy patches, boulders, hard and soft corals, pink clown fish, baraccudas, angelfish, sea whips, Gorgonian fans, Blue spotted rays, batfish, antheas, etc.,

Labas Island

Another island near Tioman Island, it is riddled with swim troughs and caverns. A fantastic diving experience is guaranteed, and it is expected of you to be a skilled diver to safely dive here amongst the wrecks, caverns and caves. Shoals of fishes, corals and underwater life will be your company around. A picturesque dive guaranteed!

Soyak Island

Lying close to Tioman island, the diving here is the best option for beginner divers. The coral and other underwater life is rich, the current is relatively manageable (if not in all places), and the waters are absolutely clear. A jackpot diving side for night diving and pictures. The ideal time to visit is the months between February to March amongst the non-monsoon months.

Bidong Islands

The Bidong Islands is an archipelago, consisting of  Pulau Yu Besar, Pulau Yu Kechil, Pulau Gelok, Pulau Karah, Batu Tengkorak and Pulau Bidong. These Islands lie close to the Redang archipelago. Once a ground for Viatnamese refugees who were popularly called as “boat people”, it is today an island for visitors to look at the remnants, water and the beaches. The Bidong archipelago is a beautiful underwater destination. There are no residential premises here, in order to preserve the “Little Saigon” of the refugees and other historical relics.

Lang Tengah Island

This Island is deemed as one of the hidden treasures of Malaysian Islands. Tucked between Redang Island and Emerald Island, it is a quiet and vivid paradise for those who especially seek a break off the noise of the world. With its lush tropical rainforest, soothing waters and amazing beaches, this Island is also a popular place to go diving and snorkelling.

So that’s a brief list! There’s so much more of the world out there for you to discover! Stay safe, be conscious, and have fun!

Malaysia’s Tioman Island: An Introduction

Malaysia’s Tioman Island: An Introduction

Tioman Island should come to mind the next time you plan a spontaneous vacation on a budget. This comprehensive guide will help you explore all the options on this breathtaking island!

THE TIOMAN ISLAND

Pulau Tioman

Tioman Island was popularized when in the 1970s the TIME Magazine had named it one of the most beautiful islands. Located in the South-eastern Coast of Malaysia, the Island has every deserving reason to be on your do-not-miss list!

The Island is a good place to spend your vacation whether solo or in group. There are budget resort packages and places accordingly. Unlike other South-eastern vacation islands like Perhentian Islands or Lang Tengah or Redang island, this Island welcomes visitors all year long.

HISTORY

Along history, Tioman Island has been a haven for fishermen, and also during War times (the wrecks of HMS Repulse and HMS Prince of Wales are still around the island – these ships of England were sunk on December 10, 1941 by Japanese bombs and torpedoes).

The Island’s lores however extend even before that. Legend has it that the Island is the body of a cursed dragon princess (possibly to explain the volcano Mount Kajang standing at 1,038 metres). Other legends say that it is a dragon prince and not a princess who was cursed. A story says that the dragon princess was enchanted by the beauty of the land that she decided to stay there. (In all cases, perhaps they had tried to explain the volcano!)

Today, snorkelling and diving around the Tioman Island at various points is very much rewarding, owing to its rich aquatic life and history. The resources on land are not any less compared to this.

Land Adventures

Long Tail Macaques

Trekking and Waterfalls: Tioman Island’s interior is covered with lush tropical rainforest, offering numerous trekking opportunities. myths legends

Tales of Malaysia Islands

Stories are ways humans preserved histories.

Long and short tales of different genres, mostly fantasy or horror. Some passed to protect certain establishments, some passed to exploit certain establishments, and some crafted and passed in the mere sense of hoping to explain a phenomenon they couldn’t understand.

Myths and legends are very personal tales, and believing them, for some, is a hobby to collect. Like antiques and artefacts. For some, it’s amusing. Some others, it’s hilarious. And others, they sincerely take up such tales and legends inside them to understand and process.

However humans process or create them, they just never get old. We’ve a brief list of such popular legends you can look into and think on, and even perhaps, give your own touch to expand!

Mahsuri’s Legend

Kota Mahsuri Pulau Langkawi
Kota Mahsuri, Pulau Langkawi

One of the most popular legends is that of Langkawi Island’s. The legend of Mahsuri’s curse that made the island barren for generations is a well-known story. Once, there was a beautiful woman name Mahsuri, who was so beautiful that she was envied by everyone. When her husband is out to fight in a war, she gives generous shelter to a stranger. It so happens that, people use this chance and accuse her of adultery. Death penalty is given, and despite her pleading her chastity, no one believes her. She is stabbed, and then, white blood flows out of her own, proving her purity. She curses the island to be barren for seven generations. She is believed to have a tomb on the island even today.

The Lake of the Pregnant Maiden

Tasik Dayang Bunting (Lake of Pregnant Maiden)
Tasik Dayang Bunting (Lake of Pregnant Maiden)

In the same Langkawi Island stands the Lake of the Pregnant Maiden. The name itself may help you guess what the legend may be about – so a celestial maiden had a child with a mortal. But the child unfortunately died. In pain, the maiden buried the child where the lake stands. The lake is believed to be blessed by her, and the waters of the lake are believed to give divine strength and help maidens who bathe there to conceive a child.

The Giant Serpent

In the Perhentian Islands, once, there lived a giant serpent who was called Naga Pulau Berjuang. When another giant serpent threatens this Island, the serpent sets out to battle it to protect the Island. The impact of their battle is believed to have caused a tract in the hill of the Island. Since this huge poisonous snake is legendary and divine, it is believed to be the reason for the absence of poisonous snakes on the Island.

The Dragon Island

Dragon Horns, Pulau Tioman
Dragon Horns, Pulau Tioman

The volcanic mountain and two horn-like structures on the Tioman Island has led to the creation of legends with dragons. One legend says that a dragon princess while crossing the sea was enchanted by the waters that she decided to be there. Another legend says that Island is actually a cursed dragon prince who was prohibited to meet his sister.

Fairy Lake

Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls
Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls, Pulau Langkawi

Another Malaysian Island story is that of the beautiful and lush flora around Telega Tujuh Waterfalls, Langkawi Island, is believed to be the house of fairies. The water is believed to have healing properties because of that.

There are also some horror stories. Definitely, more if you visit. Redang Island is taken to be a cursed island where people die mysteriously, and people give some recorded instances of French toursists who underwent that. An abandoned resort on Lang Tengah Island has been warned that, there may be ghosts to haunt!

Whether any of these tales are true or not, they give us interesting insights into humans and their understanding of the world. It also gives us a lot of creative space to create and think.

Redang Island – a perfect place to treat yourself a little!

Pulau Redang, Malaysia Island

All of us carry a need to experience things the fullest, all that those we are exposed to and can afford ourselves to. Our senses take in all that there is to, treasurely holding on to places and people and events, and that threads us as human. That is how we connect to this world outside of us. We try to find pieces of ourselves everywhere and then we take in pieces from around us to create new parts of us.

There is a balance of contribution here, and some places on the planet are just the right choices to do so. Make sure you note down Redang Island on that list! Here is a brief outline of what you need to start with.

The Redang Island

Owing to its vibrant tourist accommodations, Redang’s accommodations are mostly resort-based. The Island has a tropical temper to it. The best time to visit such East Coast islands of Malaysia is typically between March to October, for the monsoon restricts movements in the other months.

Redang’s image as a mainstream island may affect the crowds found there, and that too, only in a relative sense to other islands around. However, it still is a serene cool place for you to hang out and relax – the beaches to the North and South end, resorts, the jungles, night life, sea, trekking, underwater life – you name it!

What to Expect

The white sandy beaches of Redang slowly lead you towards the crystal clear waters. A few meters further, the sights of tropical fish and coral reefs will delight you! Laze around in the beaches around, walk on the wooden bridge and the sand, relax and eat in the resort, trek and wander in the jungle (but safely with all necessary supplies), dance or sit among the night life, wash yourself with the sea, go snorkelling and diving…

  1. For island hopping, you can visit Perhentian Islands, Lang Tengah Island, Kapas Island, Ekor Tebu Island, Ling Island, Pinang Island, Bidong Island, Lima Island and Susu Dara Island. There are other little uninhabitated islands too!
  2. During snorkelling and diving you can see coral reefs, underwater wrecks, jacks, fusiliers and trevallies, black tip reef sharks, humphead, parrotfish, cuttlefish, turtles, manta rays, whale sharks, reeftip sharks, snappers, rabbitfish, silver barracudas, clownfish, triggerfish… (since it’s a protected marine park, there are thousands of other varities of aquatic life!)
  3. During trekking you can see macaque monkeys, monitor lizards, fruit bats, squirrels (and beware of mosquitoes in general), and thankfully, no large animals!
  4. In general, you can see the sunrise, sunset, stars and other people playing beach volleyball, kayaking, fishing, just sitting (depending on the season you go there).

What to do

Well. Pack your budget, pack a ticket straight to Redang Island. Or, accommodate yourself in the nearby Perhentian Islands. But before you do that, make sure you do all of these right.

  1. Confirm your payment methods.
  2. Remember to respect local culture and religion, no matter how differently conservative.
  3. Plan an itinerary and make sure you don’t miss out what you want to do.
  4. Make sure to book the rooms comfortable for you, in budget, activity and view sense.
  5. Gather details on local transport, and make sure you manage your time properly.
  6. Have a rough idea of underwater and above-water activities you’ll be doing, and do so accordingly.

Long story short, make the best out of it!

Hidden Paradise among Malaysia Islands: Kapas Island

To be human to be touched – through any of the senses and the feelings we imbibe in. And there are places you can retreat to, just for sufficing your senses, and capture what’s more important, and what makes us human and functional – memories. And as one such places, we present to you, Pulau Kapas, or as we generally know, Kapas Island of Malaysia.

The Island

Kapas Island of Malaysia is located near the city of Kuala Teregganu, in the Eastern part of the peninsula. The name of the island translates as “Cotton”, and thus is called “Cotton Island”, because of the colour of the beaches in there.

Kapas Island is little compared to its neighbouring islands of Pulau Perhentian (Perhentian Island) and Pulau Redang (Redang Island), but is still quite wholesome. Kapas Island is thus less populated than its peers, making it the right place for you to take in silence, something so much needed these days, a silence that is not haunting. And this silence gives you a different passage of time, and sticks on with you. Kapas Island is accurately called “Hidden Paradise” for this reason.

What you can do in Kapas Island

Does it mean it’s a boring island? Absolutely not, especially if you’re looking to inhale some space away from the world. It’s a quiet place, but that doesn’t mean it’s devoid of all action for you. So what are more things you can do here to stretch out your stress?

WATER ACTIVTIES:

It’s an island, and thus the major highlights you can do here definitely include diving and snorkeling! You can swim around with schools of fishes and also turtles. A note to remember is that, Kapas Island is a part of the marine national park, so yes, you’re in for a good underwater sight-seeing. Beginner or already practicing, there’s help for you to go snorkeling and diving. Also, there’s a World War II ship wreckage site 30 minutes from the island, how cool is that!

You can also go kayaking in the island, and that helps you get around the island and explore places less explored, and to hop to nearby islands.

SHORE ACTIVITIES:

Kapas Island is known for having some of the best beaches, hands down. There are a total of 5 to 6 beaches in the island. They’re all connected by bridges, so you could just take a walk around.

Other options for you are to explore the shoreline beauty, of the rock formations beautifully carved by nature around the island.

It is thus an ethereal island you should visit, beyond doubt.

Discover Lang Tengah Island

Places like the Lang Tengah Island (Pulau Lang Tengah) – well, they say that the best things in life are those waiting to be discovered, to be embraced. To be stumbled upon in serendipity, or to be seen by deliberate choice. However discovered, the best part of it would be the unexpected yet visible place they would have been discovered from; and then you hear about that in some passing breeze, and when you find them, the first thing to run inside your head will be, “Where were you my whole life?”

Lang Tengah Island

Lang Tengah or Pulau Lang Tengah is an island in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. The Island is sandwiched between the Pulau Redang and Pulau Pergentian, on the East Coast of Malaysia. The name of this island translates as “the eagle in the middle”, as a reference to its location. Also, some people call it the “Maldives of Malaysia” owing to its marine richness.

Lang Tengah is not a place that appears so simple at plain sight but then turns into an extravagantly beautiful area – it simply is breath-taking upon first sight, with simplicity, grandeur, tranquility and brightness, all of them enmeshed together and served via Nature for us humans, in another example of its generosity.

This island has no roads to travel, except a few jungle paths cleared by civilization for convenience of travel. The only way to get around the island is by foot or by water, either by boats or by canoes.

The terrestrial of Lang Tengah Island

The tropical island has both terrestrial and marine richness. The lush rainforest cover gives a home for its own diverse ecosystem including birds, frogs, lizards and insects. It is a place with fresh oxygen and refreshing aura, all the while letting you give a reminder about the actual life outside the mechanically-built and pressing world.

The water around Lang Tengah Island

The marine side compliments this atmosphere with its beaches that have light-producing ostracods washed up on the shore, which lights the beach with a shade of neon blue, like crystals have fallen of the waters and deposited on the beach as a mark of ownership, like they belong with each other.

The water is crystal-clear, and the beaches are stunningly white in the daytime. The ecosystem inside the water isn’t any less significant to its terrestrial counterpart – they have excellent coral reefs with schools of fish swarming, sometimes even sharks and rays. However, the frequent yet brief thunderstorms restrict the ferry transports and activities of the resort between October and March.

The island offers not only a chance to escape and experience life in its fullness but also to involve in environmentally-conscious activities, like conservative activities. For example, the Turtle Bay beach in the island is dedicated to marine turtle conservation. The Lang Tengah Turtle Watch is responsible for this, and consists of volunteers to run their objectives – you can donate to their cause and also buy their merchandise! Also, you can get a chance to see baby sharks in the shallows! You will have an added enriching experience of learning about the different members of the society who are not humans who make up this planet.

What you carry till the end of your life is memories. Make sure to take all opportunities you can to hold tight to them. Pulau Lang Tengah exists in its sereneness and beauty to make an imprint on you.
